Extraction Of Iron

 

The formation of carbon monoxide is an endothermic process and the temperature on this region falls to about 1100oC. The carbon monoxide thus produced serves as the main reducing agent in the upper region of the furnace. A series of reactions that takes place in Blast furnace, are as follows:-

 

 

 

 

 

 

The liquid iron runs downward to the bottom of the furnace and is withdrawn through a tap hole.
